September: Speaking Through the Lens

“How great is our God who allows us

to enjoy, capture and share the wonder of His creations!”

This month’s theme, “Invest your time, don’t just spend it,” reminds me of one of the most valuable lessons of life. As I was taking pictures for this column, I was surprised that the vintage pendulum clock, the old Bundy and the rusty iron fence conveyed more thoughts to me when I captured them on my camera than when I just looked at them with my naked eyes.

The first picture shows that we don’t have all the time in the world. The second picture shows how we spend our time, what we do day in and day out, whether we consider our daily tasks as just a pointless routine or we take them as an opportunity to find meaning in our lives and to make a change in the lives of others by reflecting the light of Jesus.  The third picture shows that some things appear to be strong but they also rust out due some reasons such as inadequate maintenance and under utilization. And the last picture shows that no matter how expensive, classy and elegant a wood is, if not well taken care of, it will be eaten by insects and will eventually get ruined. 

The deeper meaning found in these photographs are simply reminders of one of the biggest things in life, which is investing our time by spending it invaluable things that would enrich ourselves, glorify the Lord and can make a difference in the lives of others. Every second that we have is a gift from God and we must bring back the honor to Him for His faithfulness and love.

                  We don’t have all the time in the world, so let us find meaning in our lives and cherish every moment that we have. Let us consider each day as a new opportunity for us to grow in our faith. Let us not be like a rusty iron fence, which is built to be strong but was maintained and utilized. Let us not be like the framing of pendulum clock that just exist to be displayed and eaten by insects.  Let us become useful and active Christians by utilizing the time and talent that God has given unto us for His greater glory and for the service of our fellowmen.
